Do-it-Yourself video good idea, bad idea?
I occasionally come across a company that is working on shooting their own video for a product or even a specific campaign. Shooting videos is fun and a big chunk of marketing folks really like the idea of doing their own.
...but and it's a pretty big but, why would you? A company could paint their own building, print their own brochures and maintain their company vehicles themselves, but why would they? They have a more important job focusing on running their company.
In almost any field it is possible to D-I-Y, but the results will probably not approach those of a professional specialist. Video is really important these days. Great content, well lit, with good sound is becoming the norm. In the same way you wouldn't throw together a website or print a brochure on news stock – a video defines your company's standards and approach to the market.
We shoot hundreds of corporate, training and documentary videos a year. Each is designed to deliver great content, strong messages and focused content with production values that are some of the best you can get. We bring a sense of objectivity and practice to the process and help you craft a message that reaches your demographic in an interesting and innovative way.
Anyone with a flip-cam can shoot footage, but can they make a great corporate or product video? The answer is a resounding no. The most important reason it is a "no," is that they are just to close to the subject to be able to accurately judge how good, bad or indifferent the final outcome is.
Next time you get the itch to make a video - film your vacation or some fun event (or even a corporate event) – stay away from D-I-Y videos and appendectomies – why wouldn't you?
